To install, simply place the HEK3000 voice file in your Voices folder (inside the Extensions folder) and restart your Mac. The rest of the DeskBots files can be placed anywhere which is convenient for you. As long as you have Apple's PlainTalk Text-to-Speech software installed you're ready to go!
•Configuration
DeskBots is very simple to use - you need only configure a few things. Double-click the DeskBots icon and select "Preferences…" from the file menu, type in your name, and select the voice that you would like the DeskBots to use. You can also enter two alternate names that will be used for a few of the phrases (friends, family or housemates are ideal), and the name of your place of work or school. You can even turn off or select a different background sound (stored in the "Background Sounds" folder inside the "Extras" folder), and choose an entirely different personality if you like.
•Finding the Text-to-Speech Software
If you have installed Apple's System Update 2.0 (to System 7.5.3), you should already have the PlainTalk Text-To-Speech 1.4.1 software as it is part of that update. Otherwise, you can find the software on the Internet at:
or you can get PlainTalk Text-To-Speech 1.5 on the web at:

If you have an America Online account you can find the software by going to KEYWORD: AppleComputer (one word), click on the "Software" button, and then follow this "path":
